Founded in 1989, Jambo Supplies initially supplied a small collection of home products from a modest garage. Today, the conglomerate operates four retail businesses from their 20,000 square foot warehouse, sending 7,000 to 10,000 parcels daily.
This rapid growth wouldn’t have been possible without Amazon Shipping, which now delivers 90% of Jambo supplies’ parcels. Before the move to Amazon Shipping, the conglomerate suffered a host of delivery problems that hampered its ability to grow.
It wasn’t until we joined Amazon Shipping in 2022 that we realised having a high performing delivery provider could support our business growth.
“Our vision was to seamlessly provide a wide range of home and cosmetic products to a broad customer base,” said Hardik Patel, Operations Manager for the Jambo Supplies Group. “The demand was there, but we suffered endless delivery reliability problems. It wasn’t until we joined Amazon Shipping in 2022 that we realised having a high performing delivery provider could support our business growth.”
Early delivery problems
Hardik faced delivery challenges before working with Amazon Shipping, such as lost parcels, unreliable delivery, and parcel weight restrictions.
Providers often missed their collection time which meant our warehouse team finished work late. And many parcels went missing.
“Our delivery provision was incredibly unreliable,” said Hardik. “Providers often missed their collection time which meant our warehouse team finished work late. And many parcels went missing. Without tracking, we couldn’t secure a refund either.”
The company also experienced difficulty in shipping heavier parcels. This proved a significant problem when they became the leading UK supplier for a popular global compost brand. “The weight restriction on our parcels became yet another issue,” said Hardik. “The compost retailer was fast becoming an important brand for us, and yet we were having difficulty delivering it.”
These day-to-day delivery problems were significantly hindering Jambo Supplies’ growth and preventing them from attaining Prime badge status for their Amazon retail store.
The Prime badge shows Amazon Prime customers that a product is eligible for fast and free shipping. Prime badge status boosts the visibility of retailers’ listings on Amazon and increases sales potential. To qualify, retailers must meet strict performance metrics, including offering next-day delivery and achieving a 99% on-time shipment rate.
Going bigger with Amazon Shipping
Amazon Shipping’s performance with other customers gave us confidence it could provide the reliable service we needed, in addition to next-day delivery. They also collected seven days a week—that was a big attraction.
In March 2022, Jambo Supplies decided to change delivery providers and chose Amazon Shipping. Within a year, 90% of the conglomerate’s parcels were being delivered by Amazon Shipping.
“Amazon Shipping’s performance with other customers gave us confidence it could provide the reliable service we needed, in addition to next-day delivery,” said Hardik. “They also collected seven days a week—that was a big attraction. Our daily parcel numbers were growing, and the warehouse was running at capacity.”
Amazon Shipping could also deliver heavier parcels for Jambo Supplies, satisfying needs for the popular compost brand (and other heavy products the business was looking to stock).
“We also liked Amazon Shipping’s efficient processes and Shipper Central dashboard. This would provide our operations team with daily information such as parcels dispatched and returns expected, allowing us to plan labour and resources more effectively.”
The route to efficiencies and growth
Securing Amazon Prime Badge status was an important milestone for the business, elevating them into the top 50 Amazon.co.uk sellers. Reliable, round-the-clock, next-day delivery has made a significant impact on their customer service and growth—with 99% of parcels now delivered on time.
The support from Amazon Shipping, and our account manager, has been invaluable in helping us build our business quickly.
“Our warehouse operations are also more efficient because Amazon Shipper Central helps us manage the entire process better, from booking timely collections to printing labels and managing deliveries,” said Hardik.
Shipping support and expert advice have also been key to their success, and Hardik credits Amazon Shipping for its role. “The support from Amazon Shipping, and our account manager, has been invaluable in helping us build our business quickly,” said Hardik. “We can receive help 24/7 and get excellent industry insights to help with pricing, packaging, and compliance requirements. I’d give our account manager 10 out of 10.”
The e-commerce business has grown by 200% in two years, with plans to achieve a total 300% growth. Hardik highlights that the delivery partnership with Amazon Shipping has been essential to this success.
Future expansion
Due to high demand for its products, Jambo Supplies is currently finalising plans for at least two additional warehouses. It’s discussing plans with Amazon Shipping so delivery services can scale to the additional sites with ease. Confident of Amazon Shipping’s robust support, Hardik remains excited for the future.
Our daily deliveries have grown from a couple of hundred to up to 10,000. Who knows what our performance will be in 12 months’ time.
“We’ve grown from a garage to a 20,000 square foot warehouse, and soon to multiple warehouses,” said Hardik.
“Our daily deliveries have grown from a couple of hundred to up to 10,000. Who knows what our performance will be in 12 months’ time. But with Amazon Shipping by our side, I’m quite sure we will reach our potential during the next stage of our journey.”
